Sister Brenda Cousins, C.S.C. officially joined our SARMC community in July. A Holy Cross Sister, she joins us from South Bend, Indiana where she served as the novice director of the International Novitiate at the Mother house of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. As director of novices she mentored young women who wanted to become Sisters of the Holy Cross. The women she worked with came from countries that included Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Bangladesh, India, Brazil, and Mexico. Her ministry in formation includes two years as the novice director for the Holy Cross African novitiate in Jinja, Uganda, East Africa, as well as the North American novitiate in Los Angeles, CA. In all she served 15 years in formation ministry for the Sisters of the Holy Cross.
Sister Brenda also served as a pastoral minister in a parish in south central Utah with Mexican immigrants and as a pastoral agent in a parish in Canto Grande, Lima, Peru where she facilitated Catechesis Familiar, a family based catechesis program. Her first mission as a Sister of the Holy Cross was as a high school religion and social studies teacher in Alexandria, VA, her hometown. She is the oldest of 15 children, many of whom still live in the northern Virginia area.
Sister Brenda brings her international and multi-cultural experience as well as her experience in formation ministry to our Mission Integration Department where she is ministering as a Mission Specialist. We look forward to her sharing her gifts and talents with us.
